This technology touched the hearts of many people who had lost family members or never known family who had died before they were born, and soon, the MyHeritage app, among other things. This includes the ability to restore faded colors, repair scratches, enhance resolution, as well as turn old photos into animations for deep nostalgia and adding narration. Where MyHeritage aims to differentiate itself from photo-scanning competitors is with its extensive AI-powered feature set. MyHeritage’s multi-page scanner, meanwhile, was developed by its own AI team and is exclusive to its app. The scanning aspect of the app, however, isn’t groundbreaking - Google launched its own photo scanner, Photoscan, in 2016, which offered similar technology for uploading images from old photo albums, including removing glare. The company says you can also scan individual photos if you have a collection in Shoeboxed, as well as upload photos from your phone’s camera roll. After scanning, you can also add more details, such as name, date and location, to make them easier to find. The app recognizes individual photos and will automatically crop them and save them as standalone images. To use the app, which is available for both iOS and Android, you’ll pluck a photo from a page in your old photo album. Reimagine builds on that technology by combining it with other photo-editing tools specifically designed to preserve old photos. and animating faces – the latter, a technique that went viral in previous years with the launch of MyHeritage’s “Deep Nostalgia”. Now, genealogy company MyHeritage is turning to AI to make it easier for families to save their memories with the launch of its latest app, Reimagine. AI is affecting the realm of photography, from tools like Adobe Photoshop’s new generative AI for professionals to tools like Google Photos’ upcoming Magic Editor for consumers. ![]()
